#Db2 administration tool for z os how to#
This video does not show you how to start Tools Customizer or how to specify user settings for Tools Customizer. You can learn how to set up your environment and find the worksheets in the DB2 Administration Tool User's Guide and Reference for Version 11 Release 1. This video assumes that your DB2 Admin environment is set up and that the worksheets are complete. Complete the "Gathering required data set names" worksheet and the "Gathering parameter values for Tools Customizer" worksheet. You need to set up your DB2 Admin environment. The worksheets can save you time and minimize interruptions away from Tools Customizer. Before you begin the customization process, complete the worksheets that are provided as part of the DB2 Administration Tool for z/OS User's Guide and Reference. This video covers the last three steps in the model: Customize the product, Generate customization jobs, and Submit customization jobs. You can find this model that summarizes customization steps at the URL shown. Let's begin by looking at an interactive model that shows each step of the Tools Customizer customization process. You can also enable other products that integrate with DB2 Administration Tool, however other products are not covered in this video. After you collect and input the information, Tools Customizer is ready to generate the required jobs to get DB2 Administration Tool up and running. The video navigates through the Tools Customizer for z/OS prompting you to collect site-specific environmental values such as: DB2 Administration Tool data sets, DB2 Object Comparison Tool data sets, Tools Customizer data sets ISPF data sets, and DB2 Library data sets And this video also walks you through the initial steps of starting DB2 Admin. These "customization jobs" are the equivalent to the old "sample jobs".

Once the customer is done inputting all required values, they can tell Tools Customizer to generate the "customization jobs". Upon launching Tools Customizer and specifying the Admin meta data SADBDENU data set, the customer will see a list of parameters where they must enter the values that suit their systems. Instead, the customer must use Tools Customizer to generate the former "sample jobs". With Admin 10.2 and above, the sample jobs are no longer used. The customer would edit those jobs to suit their systems: DB2 subsystem name, object names for: Checkpoint, Change Management, Catalog Copy Database, Stogroup, Tablespace, etc. With Admin 10.1 and below, the DB2 Admin team provided sample jobs in the SADBSAMP dataset. Setup is described in the DB2 Administration Tool User's Guide and Reference for Version 11 Release 1, "Preparing to customize DB2 Admin". This video assumes that your DB2 Administration Tool environment is already set up. If you follow the best practices, tips and recommendations that are provided in this video, the customization of DB2 Administration Tool takes about 1 to 1 1/2 hours to complete. The purpose for this video is to assist a DBA in the "first time" customization of DB2 Administration Tool.
